How to use MAOS Windows
The best first session is careful and visible: connect a model, ask for a low-risk task, and require the assistant to stop before it changes files, settings, or sends anything.
Launch MAOS Windows on Windows 10 or 11. Keep the app somewhere predictable, such as your Applications or Tools folder, so updates and downloads are easy to manage.
Use an API key for hosted models, or keep work private with Ollama, LM Studio, a local GGUF model, CLI pipe, OAuth, or a terminal command. Test the connection before starting a real task.
Let the assistant inspect system information, files, network details, or installed software only when the task needs it. On-demand tool packs keep the working surface smaller and easier to review.
Try: "Look through this folder, summarize what is inside, suggest cleanup steps, and stop before moving or deleting files." You get useful output without risking accidental changes.
For PowerShell or Cmd work, ask the assistant to draft the command and explain what it does before running it. Copy or approve only commands you understand.
When you are working with personal files, client material, or company code, route the assistant to Local Server or Local AI so prompts and context stay on your PC.
